ITV4 show, which launched on June 9, 2006, and ran for the duration of the2006 FIFA World Cup .The show was fronted by
Virgin Radio breakfast hostChristian O'Connell and featured up to 50% of user content.ITV Sport'sMatt Smith stepped in when O'Connell was away for one night, and TV comedianRalf Little also covered O'Connell's absence.After each World Cup match on the ITV Network, "World Cuppa" looked back at events - such as perhaps an outrageous dive or a Peter Crouch dance - and got the public to use video mobile phones or camcorders to make clips of each themed "task" dished out by O'Connell.
The public could upload and edit their content using an application, developed by video technology company Coull, located on the "World Cuppa" website.
A selection of the best footage uploaded was used in each of the 16 shows, which ran on ITV4 from 10pm-11pm daily throughout the World Cup.
All the other clips are now available to view through a dedicated website for the show.
The programme also ran competitions offering viewers the chance to win football-themed prizes. O'Connell's ITV4 show also included his own take on Sky's Fanzone commentary: Nanzone, featuring football-mad grannies; and the World Cup win, lose or draw dog, which 'predicted' the outcome of games by choosing between one of three bowls of food.
Other features include the comical "Fame or Shame" during the third quarter of the show. Here audiences shout out whether a player/celebrity has done themselves justice waving coloured signs. The best example was after
David Beckham announced the end of hisEngland captaincy and O'Connell placed him under "Shame". However he quickly acknowledged his mistake and placed him on "Fame". They would also interview puppets of Sven Goran Eriksson and Diego Maradona.He was joined on "World Cuppa" by co-presenters
Natalie Pinkham ,Steve Bunce and Radio 1 sport newsreader Mark Chapman."World Cuppa" replaced the ever-lasting "
Baddiel & Skinner " after it was revealed by ITV they had run their course therefore not commissioning their show."World Cuppa" also showcased a comedy segment entitled "Warren Barton Travel Agent", which earned the show a cult following.
During the final episode of the series (on the eve of the 2006 World Cup Final), the "Win-Lose-or Draw Dog" predicted that Scotland would win the next football World Cup in 2010!
