1981 , Saby became French Rally Champion in aRenault 5 Turbo . He drove for the works teams ofRenault ,Peugeot ,Volkswagen andLancia during his career in theWorld Rally Championship . He took twoWorld Rally Championship wins in his career -- his first, driving a Peugeot 205 T16, was in the infamous1986 Tour de Corse , in whichHenri Toivonen and his co-driverSergio Cresto died. His only other win was withLancia in the1988 Monte Carlo Rally .In 1978 Saby claimed the French
Rallycross Championship title with an Alpine A110 1600. In the 1988 French Rallycross Championship he drove aLancia Delta S4 to become the runner-up to ChampionGuy Fréquelin who drove aPeugeot 205 Turbo 16 E2.He is currently a driver for the
BMW X-Raid team and still participates in both rally raids and in theDakar Rally , which he won in1993 while driving forMitsubishi .
