Common Operating Decision System (CODS) is a high resolution visualization system created and distributed by the Norwegian company Lenco Software. Originally starting as a project for Norwegian Battle Lab and Experimentation (NOBLE), with the goal to integrate multiple data feeds and display it in one unified format.
The systems come in sizes ranging from 9 to 25 LCD screens and operate with their own backend server that interprets all incoming data before display. The idea was for commanders to have better situational awareness, without having to replace all of the technology on the battle field to one proprietary format. The standard backend server can easily handle 100 data updates a second.
The displays are designed as "map tables" but the integrated motorized 90° tilt enables them to be used in environments where floor space is an issue.
Currently the Norwegian Government is testing 8 of them in various applications, including two 25 screen systems for joint and senior command experiments.
CODS may also be used to display data from external simulation systems. Data can be added using a documented API or XML interface.
