Lynn Nottage (1964-) is a respected American
playwright whose work often deals with the lives of African Americans andwomen . She was born inBrooklyn and is a graduate ofBrown University and theYale School of Drama . She received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2005, and aMacArthur Genius Grant in 2007.Her best-known play is "Intimate Apparel", co-commissioned and produced at
Baltimore 's Center Stage (where it premiered in February 2003) andSouth Coast Repertory . It was highly acclaimed in itsOff-Broadway production in 2004, starringViola Davis . Her other plays include the children’s musical, "A Walk Through Time"; "Mud, River, Stone" (Blackburn Prize finalist); "Por’knockers; Poof!" (Heideman Award); and "Las Meninas". The West Coast premiere of her "Crumbs from the Table of Joy", atSouth Coast Repertory , earned twoNAACP Theatre Awards for performance.Nottage's plays have been produced

She is also the recipient of aPlaywrights Horizons Amblin/Dreamworks commission and anNEA/TCG grant for a year-long residency atFreedom Repertory Theatre inPhiladelphia . Ms. Nottage is a member ofNew Dramatists .Works
