John Coghlan (born John Robert Coghlan,
19 September 1946 ,Dulwich ,London ,England [http://wc06.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:avfixqr5ldke] ) was an original member of the English rock band,Status Quo .The son of a Glasgow-born father and a London born mother, Coghlan grew up in
Dulwich , and was educated at Kingsdale Comprehensive school until leaving school at 15 to begin an apprenticeship as a mechanic.Career
He joined Status Quo, then called The Spectres, in the early 1960s. His drumming can be heard on Status Quo
song s such as "Caroline", "Down Down ", "Rockin' All Over the World" and "Whatever You Want".He left the group in late 1981, to be replaced by
Pete Kircher , formerly of the 1960s bandHoneybus . After his departure Coghlan played with Partners In Crime who failed to create major attention. He also played on a one-off single by The Rockers, a supergroup also comprisingRoy Wood ,Phil Lynott andChas Hodges , "We Are The Boys (Who Make All The Noise)", arock and roll medley , which was released in November 1983 and made No. 79 in the charts.His own band, 'John Coghlan's Diesel', was a loose ensemble which consisted of friends he got to know in his Status Quo years, most notably Bob Young and
Andy Bown . Diesel never signed a properrecording contract .Coghlan continues to play in John Coghlan's Quo, with members of Quo tribute bands State of Quo and On the Level.
He also plays in the 'John Coghlan Band', or JCB, which comprises the non-drumming members of the 12 bar boogie rock band
Predatür . He also tours with theKing Earl Boogie Band with former members ofMungo Jerry .External links
