All trains for thePort Jefferson Branch stop at Hicksville, and while all trains on theRonkonkoma Branch pass through this station, a few do not stop. [http://www.mta.info/lirr/Timetable/Branch.htm?Folder=Branch&Branch=Ronkonkoma&Direction=East&Period=Weekdays] The station is located at Newbridge Road (Route 106) and West Barclay Street in Hicksville, New York. It has two platforms and three tracks. It is fully wheelchair accessible, with an elevator to each platform from street level. It is serviced by 12Long Island Bus routes and a yellow cab service on the ground level of the station. Travel time to Penn Station varies between 40 and 50 minutes , depending on if a train is local or express.Platforms and tracks
There are two platforms, A and B, and three tracks, with Track 2 sitting between, and accessible from both platforms. Generally, Platform A is used for westbound trains and Platform B for eastbound trains. Track 1, which is accessible from Platform A, is used mostly for trains that terminate or originate at Hicksville, and occasionally freight trains. Track 2 is located between platforms A and B, and trains on this track open their doors to both platforms. Track 2 is usually used for westbound trains to Penn Station, Flatbush Avenue station, or the other New York terminals. Track 3 is used for eastbound trains, except on weekday mornings when there are some westbound trains.
The Port Jefferson Branch splits from the Main Line at
Divide Interlocking directly east of the station, on the east side of the bridge over Broadway (NY 107 ), on the branch's way toPort Jefferson Station . The Port Jefferson Branch takes trains to the northeast, while the Main Line takes commuters to the southeast on its way to Ronkonkoma and Greenport, as well some Central Branch bound trains that lead commuters towards Babylon Station on its way to theMontauk Branch .History
Hicksville Station's first depot was originally opened on
March 1 ,1837 as the temporary terminus of the LIRR. The line was expanded through to Farmingdale in 1841. In 1854, the station gained an extra line known as theHicksville and Syosset Railroad , which later became thePort Jefferson Branch of the LIRR. Ten years later onJuly 15 ,1864 the first depot burned down. A second depot opened in September 1873, and was moved to a private location in 1909. The third depot opened onOctober 30 ,1909 , and was razed in November 1962 as the current elevated structure was being built.MTA Long Island Bus Connections*N20: Flushing-Hicksville
