college s of theCity University of New York ,USA . Founded in1931 as the Bronx campus ofHunter College , the school became an independent college within the City University in1968 . The college is named afterHerbert Lehman , a formerNew York governor,United States senator, and philanthropist. Located near the
Jerome Park Reservoir at 250Bedford Park Boulevard West (250 West 200th Street if you are counting numbers). Lehman has a 37-acre (15 hectare) campus with a combination of Collegiate Gothic andmodern architecture . The campus was the main national training ground for women in the military duringWorld War II and was the interim headquarters for the newly formedUnited Nations for six months in1946 . In the mid 1990's, a new postmodern-style gymnasium was opened, standing in contrast to the Gothic revival buildings that define the campus.
