FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2011

FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2011

The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2011 are scheduled to be held in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria, Germany, in February 2011.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen last hosted the world championships in FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 1978. It also was the site of the first Olympic alpine skiing competition (combined), at the 1936 Winter Olympics.

The FIS awarded the 2011 World Championships on May 25, 2006, in Vilamoura, Portugal. The other finalist was Schladming, Austria, which will host in 2013.

In the two decades prior to landing the 2011 event in 2006, Garmisch-Partenkirchen unsuccessfully bid to host the world championships five times.
