Paddington is an inner suburb of Brisbane, Australia located 2 km west of the Brisbane CBD. As is common with other suburbs in the area, Paddington is located on a number of steep ridges and hills. It was originally settled in the 1860s. Many original and distinctive Queenslander homes can be found in the suburb. Houses are frequently built on stumps, owing to the steep nature of their blocks.

Geography

Rosalie is an inner western locality located in Paddington. It lies in a valley in the foothills of Mount Coot-tha and is predominantly residential, with many Queenslander-style homes.

Transport

By Road, the main thoroughfares of Paddington are Given, La Trobe and Enoggera Terraces. Most shops are located on Given and La Trobe Terraces and Caxton Street.

By Bus, Buses operated by Brisbane Transport continue to serve the suburb.

History

Prior to 1925 the suburb was administered by the Ithaca Town Council. In that year the Council was amalgamated with 24 other councils to form the Brisbane City Council. Until December 1968 electric trams initially operated by the Brisbane Tramways Company and later the Brisbane City Council operated along all four main thoroughfares in the suburb. A tram depot (garage) was located on La Trobe Terrace between 1915 and 1962, when it was destroyed in one of Brisbane's largest fires.
