The Livesey Museum for Children is in the Old Kent Road, within the London Borough of Southwark, London, England.
The Livesey Museum is one of very few children's museums in the United Kingdom, and shows a completely new hands-on exhibition every year. Each exhibition is suitable for all children under 12, and admission is free.
Recent exhibitions have explored the themes of Shelter, Energy, and Myths & Legends. The museum has no permanent collection, but each exhibition features objects and artwork on loan from Southwark Council's historic collections.
The museum also has a courtyard which is one of the most tranquil public spaces on the Old Kent Road.
News on 25/2/08: Southwark Council voted on 20th February to close the Museum and it will shut to the public on 1st March. The decision is due to budget cuts despite the popularity and success of the Museum. After a brief campaign to persuade the Council to keep it open, Friends of the Livesey Museum for Children are proposing to form a trust, to raise funds and to run it for the community.
News on 16/4/08: Southwark Council has now accepted that it had breached the trust by which it looks after the Livesey building, that it does not own it outright and therefore cannot sell it as planned. Their intention is to work with the Charity Commission to develop a scheme. The Friends is now constituted and is developing a business plan to take on the trust.
