Marcus Corporation

The Marcus Corporation (NYSEMCS) is a publicly held company headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The company operates two principal divisions: Marcus Theatres and Marcus Hotels and Resorts. One of the company's principal assets, Baymont Motels, was sold to La Quinta Corporation in 2003. Since the 1980s, the Marcus family has become one of the most important philanthropical presences in the city of Milwaukee. The Marcus Amphitheater, a 40,000 seat concert venue on the Milwaukee lakefront, and the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts constitute two of the family's most important donations to the city.

Marcus Corporation was founded on November 1, 1935 by Ben Marcus with the purchase of a single movie theatre screen in Ripon, Wisconsin. A family-led company, Stephen H. Marcus, Ben's son, served as president of the company from 1980 to 2008 and as chief executive officer from 1988 to 2009. He remains chairman of the board. Today the company is in its third generation of leadership. Gregory S. Marcus, Steve's son, serves as president and chief executive officer of the company.

Marcus Theatres is the sixth largest motion picture circuit in the U.S. and owns or manages nearly 700 screens at 55 locations in Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, and Ohio, and one family entertainment center in Wisconsin. The company serves moviegoers in major markets including Milwaukee and Madison, Wisconsin, Green Bay, Wisconsin, Sturtevant, Wisconsin,the Twin Cities, the greater Chicago area, Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska, Fargo, North Dakota, and Columbus, Ohio.

Marcus Hotels and Resorts, currently owns or manages 19 hotels and resorts in Arizona, California, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, and Wisconsin, and one vacation club in Wisconsin. Beginning with The Pfister Hotel in 1962, Marcus Hotels and Resorts has grown to become a leading national hotel management company. Its portfolio includes a distinctive selection of properties, from upscale city hotels to luxury resorts, suburban properties and historic masterpieces. Since the company's first lodging endeavor, it now has more than 40 years of hotel ownership and management experience.
