Jonathan Norton, more commonly known as Butch, (born March 21, 1958) is a drummer, percussionist and vocalist best known for his work with the Los Angeles-based indie rock band Eels between 1996 and 2003. Biography

Butch met Eels frontman E auditioning for E's touring band in support of his "Broken Toy Shop" album. He was present on drums, percussion and occasionally backing vocals for "Beautiful Freak", "Electro-shock Blues", "Daisies of the Galaxy", "Souljacker" and "Shootenanny!" as well as each album's supporting tour. In addition to his percussion, Butch would also occasionally contribute lead vocals (such as on "Electro-Shock Blues Show's" "Efils God") and bird calls during live concerts, and would even occasionally remix tracks.

Although the official Eels announcement of Butch's departure claimed that he was leaving the group to do studio drumming and play a string of concert dates with Tracy Chapman, in actuality he left the band due to alleged financial disputes between himself and frontman E. He later told an interviewer that the cause of his exit from the band "was strictly about business." He also said that his post-Eels relationship with E was "non-existent."

Butch also played drums, percussion and sound effects on the soundtracks to the films "The Dukes of Hazzard" and "Bad News Bears".

In 2007, he toured with Lucinda Williams; E was a guest artist on some of the shows in September 2007.

He is credited as a "production member" along with Peter Malick and Ducky Carlislie at Radar Proof studios in Van Nuys, California. Butch also sometimes plays in a California-based band called Dreaming Ferns.
