Bibrka ( _uk. Бібрка) is a
city in westernUkraine , located in theLviv Oblast (province) about 29 km southeast ofLviv onPI29 . The city has been ruled at various points by theAustrian empire , theAustro-Hungarian empire , theKingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria , theKingdom of Hungary , thePolish-Lithuanian Commonwealth , theRussian Empire , theSoviet Union , and is now part of theLviv Oblast in Ukraine; as a result Bibrka has several official and native names, including: Bóbrka (Polish/Russian), Prachnik (German), and Boiberke/Boyberke (Yiddish). The city has a population of 3,980.Bibrka was the site of a Soviet prison and detention centre that detained Poles and other ethnic minorities living within the Soviet Union in the mid-20th century.
