- Sinepuxent Bay
Sinepuxent Bay is an
inland waterway which connectsChincoteague Bay to the Ocean CityInlet . It separates Sinepuxent Neck, inWorcester County, Maryland , fromAssateague Island , and is crossed by the Verrazano Bridge onMaryland State Highway 611 (not to be confused with theVerrazano-Narrows Bridge inNew York City ; both were named forGiovanni da Verrazzano , who explored the coastline in1524 ). The bay is the location of the islands that compose theSinepuxent Bay Wildlife Management Area .Sinepuxent Inlet, a navigatable waterway through the
barrier island during the colonial era, was located just south of theAssateague Island National Seashore day-use area, but was closed in ahurricane in 1818.
