Plot

The first half of the film is all about how Simbu, a happy-go-lucky college student with Suji (Sandhya) as his best friend. Valavan showcases his character as Simbu by making Swapna (Nayantara) fall in love with him. It basically showcases Simbu's guide on how to romance. Even when he realizes that Swapna is a teacher who is three years older than him, he decides to woo her by turning into Pallan (Simbu) an ugly duckling with buck tooth and glasses. Pallan makes Swapna (Nayanthara) fall in love with him for his heart, even though he is ugly.

Soon, after a couple of well-executed dramas, he makes Swapna tell him “I love you” and they end up kissing and doing things in bed. But when Swapna comes to know that Vallan is younger than her (from one of Vallan's enemies in school) and that too a student, she dumps him and decides to marry another guy. Meanwhile a sequence of events take place, much to the chagrin of Vallavan who is highly insulted by them. The lip-lock kissing scene gave negative impacts in Tamil Film Industry. The picture of Nayanthara and Simbu being kissed in their private place was a big shock for Tamil film Industry.

As Vallavan walks in the streets wondering how things could get so messy, his school days come back to haunt him. Geetha (Reema Sen) his first girlfriend at school, returns for payback time. She tells him that she was the spoilsport for the current mess in his life. Her obsessive love

After a climax displaying histrionics, film fast-forwards to 3 years later. Geetha is released from a mental asylum. The moment she steps out, she lets go of her and exhibits her fiery psychotic expression. Vallavan is waiting for her and they communicate telepathically.
