Kbeach Global Radio, also known as KBeach.org, is a free format, student run internet radio station at California State University, Long Beach. The radio station is operated during the fall and spring semesters. The station has been around in various forms since the mid-1970s, then known as KSUL (which went defunct after 1981.) KBeach is a department of Associated Students, Incorporated at CSULB and is both funded and regulated by them. Although not having a radio transmitter, KBeach has gained attention on campus by hosting and DJing various events and promotions, such as Thursday Night Concerts at the CSULB Nugget Bag & Grill.

Programming

Lisa's Honest Show

In Fall 2002, student and comic Lisa Jablonsky hosted a show on Kbeach called "Lisa's Honest Show".Originally, Jablonsky used the show to voice her opinions about college, her ex-boyfriends and to interview her friends on the air. Eventually the show became a two-hour talk show and featured notable comedians, such as Tom Rhodes and Greg Behrendt right before he appeared on Oprah with his book - "He's Just Not That Into You". Behrendt also gave Jablonsky dating advice on Lisa's Honest Show.

Jablonsky met Tom Rhodes when she was 16 backpacking in San Francisco. She met Behrendt in 2003, backstage at his rock/comedy show Bring the Rock at Largo in Hollywood."Lisa's Honest Show" ran from Fall 2002 to Spring 2004 at Kbeach. It featured indie comics and musicians and continues as a podcast at honestlisa.com. Promos for Kbeach are on honestlisa.com.

Music

The music format of the station varies DJ to DJ. While many shows focus on a single type of music, some shows play a wide variety of music. This can vary from indie rock, mainstream rap, classic rock and older pop forms such as new wave and even disco. It should be noted that most of the programming is not "mainstream" music, but mostly independent artists. KBeach has labeled itself as being anti-Clear Channel because of the amount of control Clear Channel has on the music industry. The programming schedule for the spring 2006 semester was broken up into 2 hours segments.
