Grupo Ferrovial and its Polish subsidiary Budimex were placed on the list of companies to engage with or exclude in 2007, as they did not comply with the "GES Global Ethical Standard", a model for international norms for the environment, human rights and business ethics. This was due to Grupo Ferrovial's involvement in a controversial Polish motorway and endangering a distinct type of wildlife when building a by-pass through an EU Special Protection Area (SPA). [ [http://www.ges-invest.com/pages/?ID=78 GES Global Ethical Standard] ] The
European Commission took legal action and the road was halted.References
