Club Nicknames
Atletico Bucaramanga fans and the press are fond of the nickname "Los Leopardos" (The Leopards). This name derives from the 1950s because of the yellowish resemblance to the animal's fur.
Due to the species of tree that gave the name to the city in which the team plays (Bucaro), it is also common to refer to Atletico Bucaramanga or his fans as "Los Bucaros".

Club Atlético Bucaramanga and Club Cucuta Deportivo are the two of the three most important teams in northern Colombia, with the other one being Club Atletico Junior. Due to the rivalry between them, the Atlético Bucaramanga vs Cucuta match was listed by the Caracol Radio as one of the most famous derbies in the country.[1], and also as one of the Fifty sporting things you must do in Colombia before you die.
Relegation
In 1994, after finishing in 16th place in the league, Altletico Bucaramanga was relegated to the second division, Primera B. Six months later (June, 1995) and after a short tournament due to changes in the soccer calendar, the team won the second division title and returned to the top flight. However, the team has been once again relegated after finishing in last place last year (2008).
