Raccoons in mythology

*Tanuki in Japanese Mythology. "Tanuki" is often mistranslated "raccoon". They are really raccoon dogs (genus "Nyctereutes procyonoides" in family Canidae). The physical resemblance which lends them their English name is superficial.
