Rose has close to 20 years of defensive coordinator experience, at several schools including stints atMiami University , Memphis, Cincinnati, Minnesota,Boston College ,East Carolina , Eastern Michigan andLouisiana Tech . Rose served as the head coach at
Miami University inOxford, Ohio from1983 -1989 . He led that1986 squad to theMid-American Conference championship and a berth in theCalifornia Bowl . He orchestrated perhaps the biggest win in the programs history with a 21-12 victory over No. 8 ranked LSU inBaton Rouge during the 1986 season. Even with the success in1986 , he only had 2 winning seasons in 7 years with a career record of 31-44-3. This record included a 20 game non-winning streak. After the 1989 season his contract was not renewed and was replaced by Randy Walker. Rose was the first coach sinceEdwin Sweetland in 1911 to leave Miami with a losing record."Miami University record"
