List of Embarq operating companies

The Embarq Operating Companies are telephone companies owned by Embarq that serve the regions in 18 states formerly served by Sprint, United Telecommunications, and Centel. They include:
*Carolina Telephone and Telegraph Company d/b/a Sprint Mid Atlantic- United Telephone Operations in North Carolina
*Central Telephone (Centel) of Virginia, Inc.
*Central Telephone Company of Texas
*Central Telephone Company - Nevada
*Centel operations in North Carolina
*Embarq Florida, Inc. (formerly Sprint - Florida, Inc. - Created in 1996 and United Telephone Company of Florida prior to 1996)
*Embarq Minnesota (formerly United Telephone Company of Minnesota)
*Embarq Missouri (formerly United Telephone Company of Missouri)
*United Telephone - Southeast, Inc. - Virginia, Tennessee
*United Telephone Company of the Carolinas (formerly United Telephone Company of South Carolina)
*United Telephone Company of Ohio
*United Telephone Company of Indiana
*United Telephone Company of New Jersey
*United Telephone Company of Pennsylvania
*United Telephone Company of South Central Kansas
*United Telephone Company of the West - Nebraska, Wyoming
*United Telephone Company of Texas
*United Telephone of the Northwest - Oregon, Washington

The following companies were sold off or discontinued by Sprint:
*Central Telephone (Centel) of Florida, Inc. - merged with United Telephone of Florida to form Sprint - Florida, Inc.
*United Telephone of Florida, Inc. - merged into Sprint - Florida, Inc.
*Central Telephone Company of Illinois - sold to Gallatin River Communications

Sprint's local telephone operations continued to use the red diamond logo following the NEXTEL merger. All Sprint Operating Companies became property of Embarq on May 17, 2006, and the Sprint Operating Companies ceased doing business as "Sprint".
