Expediency Discernment Council

The Expediency Discernment Council of the System [ [http://www.majma.ir/ مجمع تشخیص مصلحت نظام ] ] (PerB|: مجمع تشخیص مصلحت نظام), is an administrative assembly appointed by the Supreme Leader [ [http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/shared/spl/hi/middle_east/03/iran_power/html/expediency_council.stm Expediency Council] "BBC News" ] and was created upon the revision to the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Iran on 6 February 1988 [ [http://www.farhang.gov.ir/iran-media/psir.htm Foreign press and media department ] ] . Its purpose is to resolve differences or conflicts between the Majlis and the Council of Guardians, and also to serve as a consultative council to the Supreme Leader.

As of February 2007, the council is headed by Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani. The current secretary of the council is General Mohsen Rezaee. The council's power increased significantly when Rafsanjani joined. Fact|date=February 2007
