North Tyneside General Hospital is part of Northumbria NHS Trust. It is closely associated with Wansbeck General Hospital in Ashington. It is the main hospital serving the North Tyneside area. It is located on Rake Lane, near New York in North Shields, England.

History

It was built between 1984 and 1996 with gradual extensions, and replaced several other hospitals such as Tynemouth Infirmary and Preston Hospital. It is affectionately known as Rake Lane Hospital It serves a population of about 250,000 in North Tyneside and Northumberland.

  • Northern Doctors after hours G.P. service (not a walk in clinic. Referrals through NHS Direct or G.P. surgeries only).

Patients requiring Maxillo-facial Surgery, Burn and Plastic specialist are generally referred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne. Patients requiring neuro-surgical care are usually referred to Newcastle General Hospital. Patients requiring Urology and ENT specialities are generally referred to the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle.
