Husain Haqqani

Husain Haqqani or Hussain Haqqani (Urdu: حسین حقّانی) (born July 1, 1956 in Malir,Karachi, Pakistan) is the Pakistan Ambassador to the United States, appointed by the PM Yousaf Raza Gillani coalition government on 3 April, 2008. He replaced Mahmud Ali Durrani in Washington, D.C., who became the National Security Adviser to the Gillani government. Haqqani has also worked as a journalist from 1980-1988, adviser to Pakistani Prime Ministers Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi, Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto from 1988-1996, Pakistan's ambassador to Sri Lanka from 1992-1993, and as an academic as Associate Professor of International Relations and director of the Institute for International Relations at Boston University. He is the Co-Director of the Hudson Institute's Project on the Future of the Muslim World. He holds B.A. and M.A. degrees from University of Karachi. He is married to Farahnaz Ispahani.

Ms Isphahani is Mr Haqqani's third love. He was previously married to the sister of Naheed Khan (Benazir Bhutto's personal secretarty).
