- Amman Valley Railway
The Amman Valley Railway is a heritage
railway project in the Amman Valley, nearLlanelli in westWales . The line that the project is based on is one of a number of lines, some of which carried passengers, but many of which werecolliery branch lines, serving the various collieries of the area betweenSwansea and Llanelli. The Amman Valley project is aiming to help bring tourists and trade to the valley, one of the many areas that suffered after the collapse of most heavy industry in
South Wales , and in many ways differs from that of most other volunteer-run railways. They are hoping to be able to give train rides behind
steam locomotive s, and are planning to buy threetank engine s of a common, popular build fromPoland , almost all of which have been sold to the highest bidder since they were put out of railway use in the 1990s. They are similar in many ways to theGreat Western Railway pannier tank locomotives. In mid-2006, a Class 103
diesel multiple unit vehicle was purchased for restoration and eventual use on the line. This is M50397, formerly of theDenbigh & Mold Junction Railway .External links
