The 1992 Embassy
World Snooker Championship took place at theCrucible Theatre ,Sheffield between the18 April and4 May 1992 .Stephen Hendry was the eventual winner of the 1992 Embassy World Championship after an 18-14 win over Jimmy White. At one point, White led 14-8 and was a red and colour away from winning the frame. He missed, only for Hendry to win the frame -- and the next nine. It is regarded as one of Jimmy White's best chances of winning the World Championship.
Notable moments
*
Jimmy White became only the second player ever to compile a 147 break at the Crucible (during his 10-4 first round win over Tony Drago), nine years after the classic Cliff Thorburn maximum in 1983.* The 10 frames Stephen Hendry won in the World Final to go from 8-14 behind to win 18-14 is still the most frames any player has ever won in a row in a Crucible World Final.
* Winning the last ten frames of his final against Jimmy White, and the first 9 frames of his first round encounter with Danny Fowler in 1993, Hendry won 19 frames in a row, which is the most frames anyone has ever won in a row over two Crucibles combined.
* Hendry made another record in the semi-final when he beat
Terry Griffiths 16-4. The biggest margin during a 31 frame match and the biggest in a semi-final until 2004, (ironically it was Stephen Hendry who was defeated by Ronnie O'Sullivan 17-4).*
Steve Davis ' 4-10 defeat in the first round toPeter Ebdon who had made his debut which was the first time since 1982 that Davis had not been present at the last 16 of the championship.* Ebdon meanwhile was among eight players who made their debuts. The other included
Mark Johnston-Allen ,Mick Price ,Chris Small , Stephen Murphy, 1990 Grand Prix finalistNigel Bond andThailand 'sJames Wattana who was the first player from the far east to play at the Crucible.* The 10-0 win of defending champion
John Parrott overEddie Charlton is the only whitewash in the history of the Crucible.* There were 25 century breaks in the 1992 World Snooker Championship.
