World Snooker Championship took place between the17 April and3 May 2004 at theCrucible Theatre ,Sheffield . Mark Williams looked to defend his world title which he won in 2003, but the final winner wasRonnie O'Sullivan , beatingGraeme Dott by 18 frames to 8 in the final.Notable Moments

Chris Small was forced to retire from his first round match againstAlan McManus due to effects of his spinal diseaseankylosing spondylitis . His condition would later force him to retire from the game permanently.*
Andy Hicks reached the second round, beatingQuinten Hann in a match memorable for a near punch-up between the two players at the end, triggered by Hicks pointing out to Hann that he was likely to drop out of the Top 16 as a result of the loss* Ronnie O'Sullivan's noted temperamental nature flared up, with numerous displays of anger and dismay at his performance in the first couple of rounds.

Stephen Hendry became the biggest ever in the round when he won 17-4 (ironically it was Stephen Hendry who had held the previous record when he defeated Terry Griffiths 16-4 in the 1992 semi-final).*
Graeme Dott raced into a 5-0 lead in the final. But O'Sullivan eventually won 18-8 - the fourth biggest margin of victory in a world final.Prize Money
