Hosanger is a former municipality in
Hordaland county, Norway.The parish of "Hosanger" was established as a municipality January 1, 1838 (see
formannskapsdistrikt ).The annex of
Seim (lying as anexclave of the municipality in the west) was transferred from Hosanger to the new municipality ofAlversund January 1, 1885. At that time Hosanger had a population of 3.387.On 1 January 1867 a district of
Voss with 28 inhabitants was moved to Hosanger by Royal resolution. On 1 January 1910 the district ofModalen was separated from Hosanger to create a discrete municipality with 821 inhabitants. The split left Hosanger with 2.524 inhabitants.On
1 January 1964 the area north of theOsterfjord , with 791 inhabitants, became a part of the enlargedLindås municipality. The rest of Hosanger, with 1.616 inhabitants, took part in a merger to create the new municipalityOsterøy .The village Hosanger is located on the western shore of the Osterøy, between
Lonevåg andFotlandsvåg .
