- Hamre, Osterøy
Hamre is a former municipality in
Hordaland county, Norway.The parish of "Hammer" was established as a municipality January 1, 1838 (see
formannskapsdistrikt ). The name was changed to Hamre in 1915.On
January 1 ,1904 the districtÅsane was separated from Hamre to constitute a municipality of its own. The split left Hamre with a population of 2,914. On 1 July 1914 a part of Hamre with 622 inhabitants was transferred to Åsane.On
1 January 1964 the islandFlatøy with 166 inhabitants was incorporated intoMeland municipality while the area north ofOsterfjorden with 1,240 inhabitants was incorporated intoLindås . The rest of Hamre, with 1,166 inhabitants, was merged with parts ofBruvik ,Haus and Hosanger to create the new municipalityOsterøy .The village Hamre is located near the extreme western point of Osterøy, across the fjord from
Knarvik .Findings from the Stone Age hints that people have been living in Hamre and the surrounding area for more than 3500 years.
