Aldergrove, British Columbia

Aldergrove is a small town within the jurisdiction of the The Township of Langley, a municipality within the Greater Vancouver Regional District. Located at the southeastern edge of both Langley and Greater Vancouver, and nearby to the metropolitan area of Abbotsford, British Columbia just east, Aldergrove has a population of approximately 12,000 [ [http://www.township.langley.bc.ca/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=192&Itemid=389 Township of Langley] ] .

Aldergrove is 59 kilometres east of Vancouver. It borders Surrey to the west, Abbotsford to the east, the Fraser River to the north, and reaches south to the border between British Columbia and Washington.

Aldergrove is home to Langley's only border crossing, connecting Aldergrove and Lynden, Washington.

The Greater Vancouver Zoo is also located in Aldergrove

Military

The Canadian Forces' (Navy) primary communication station for the Pacific fleet is located at Naval Radio Site Aldergrove.

Education

As part of School District 35 Langley, Aldergove has one high school, Aldergrove Community Secondary School, and five elementary schools:

*Betty Gilbert Elementary School (Soon to be turned in to Aldergrove's first middle school)
*Coghlan Elementary School
*North Otter Elementary School
*Parkside Centennial Elementary School
*Shortreed Elementary School

Aldergrove Elementary School used to be an active school until 2007, when protests since 2005 failed to prevent closure due to running under capacity with 189 pupils in 2006.

Additionally, some high school students in the Aldergrove area attend D.W. Poppy Secondary School, which is outside of the generally-recognized area of Aldergrove but still within the Langley Township [ [http://www.sd35.bc.ca/schools/secondarycatch.pdf Secondary Schools Map] , School District #35 Website] .
