- Steak bomb
A Steak Bomb is a hot
submarine sandwich found in most pizza and sub shops throughout theNew England area of theUnited States . This popular sandwich has a reputation for being overstuffed and very messy to eat. USA Subs in Derry, NH caused considerable controversy in the summer of '07 when they trademarked the sandwich. The steak bomb is served in sub shops all over New England, but USA Subs sent out a cease and desist letter to a local competitior in hopes of preventing them from selling the popular sandwich. The public rallied around Great America Subs of Londonderry, NH and USA Subs eventually backed off their cease and desist order.A typical sandwich consists of slices of steak with
salami and meltedprovolone cheese under grilled onions, sautéed red and green bell peppers, mushrooms, and peppered shaved steak all on a grilled Hoagie roll although there are other variations that includepepperoni , sliced ham, capicola , or even bacon. It is considered an offshoot of aPhilly Cheese Steak sandwich. Many restaurants now serve the sandwich without any of the sandwich meats, even though historically the recipe had once called for a minimum of at least
salami .Fat Boy Special
Another variation of the Steak Bomb is called the Fat Boy Special. It includes everything from a regular steak bomb and also includes tomato slices, sweet pickles, and hot Italian peppers or jalapenos. It is found on Coastal New England areas. It may have gotten its start from the annual
Laconia Motorcycle Week rally held in Laconia andWeirs Beach, New Hampshire , as there is a popular type ofHarley-Davidson motorcycle called the "Fat Boy".Social Influences
