Lee Patrick (born
17 November 1938 inOneonta, New York ) is an American saxophonist, saxophone teacher, scholar, arranger, and composer. He is the second of six children born to Robert J. and Sara (Holloran) Patrick.Education
Patrick holds a bachelor's degree from
Ithaca College and aMaster of Music degree fromBall State University , where he studied with saxophonistCecil Leeson . He holds a D.M.A. degree from theUniversity of Kentucky (1971).He did additional study at the
Eastman School of Music with saxophonistSigurd Raschèr , and attended several of Raschèr's saxophone workshops in the 1960s and 1970s.Teaching positions
Patrick currently serves as instructor of saxophone at
Transylvania University inLexington, Kentucky .He served as instructor of saxophone at the
University of Louisville , inLouisville, Kentucky from the 1970s through 1992.He served as director of the Saxophone Institute, a week-long study week for classical saxophonists, for more than 25 years. The Institute was held at the
University of Louisville in the 1970s through mid 1990s, and atTransylvania University through 2001.Performing career
In the 1980s and 1990s Patrick played in THE TRIO, an ensemble of alto, tenor, and baritone
saxophone s. Much new music was created for this ensemble, including several pieces written by Patrick. Other members of THE TRIO over the years included John S. Moore,Patrick Meighan ,Pete Hodson , andRick Morgan .He has performed with the
Saxophone Sinfonia , including concerts at the 1979World Saxophone Congress and atAlice Tully Hall inNew York City .Compositions and arrangements
Patrick is widely known as an arranger of classical music for saxophone ensemble. Many of these publications have become part of the standard repertoire and are performed throuought the world. Several of his arrangements and compositions are published as "The Lee Patrick Saxophone Series" by
