The album was released on June 22, 1999 on the Asylum label. It peaked at number 5 on the Billboard Country Albums chart and number 53 on The Billboard 200 chart. Cold Hard Truth went Gold in 2000.[2] A video was also made for the track "Choices." Jones won a Grammy for Best Male Country Vocal Performance for the song "Choices." This is Jones' very first album with the Asylum Records label. "You Never Know Just How Good You've Got It" was originally recorded by Tracy Byrd on his 1994 album No Ordinary Man.
