EH14 5JRWebsite Nether Currie Primary Scho Nether Currie Primary School is on the outskirts of Edinburgh, in the south west of the city. The school was built in 1961. It is in the centre of a housing estate with the majority of children living locally and able to walk to school. The 175 pupils are in 7 classes from Primary 1 to Primary 7, covering the ages 4 to 12.
Most children move to the local secondary school - Currie Community High School - after Primary 7.
The areas of study normally included within the primary school programme are: Language (including either French or German for Primary 6 and 7 pupils Mathematics Environmental Studies (science, social subjects, technology) Expressive Arts Religious and Moral Education Personal and Social Education Health Education
The school has a large playground with a large grass football pitch. There are also extensive grassed areas with picnic tables.
The school is an important part of the local community. The school has a Parent-Teacher Association and an elected School Board, and recently established a partnership with The Friends of Muirwood Park.
The single-storey, split-level building contains 8 classrooms and associated cloakroom and toilet facilities, a learning support base and a general purpose room. There is a large hall (with stage) which provides accommodation for dining, recreation and social gatherings, and a bright, gymnasium.
The school holds the Safer Routes to School Road Safety Charter gold award; a group of pupils and adults is now drawing up a School Travel Plan. The school is currently working on both the Eco-Schools and Health Promoting Schools programmes.
