Finnish phonotactics

Finnish phonotactics

The phonotactics of the Finnish language natively permit syllables of form CVCC and CVVC at maximum, e.g. tors-tai, vaah-to. More importantly, a word must contain at least two voiced morae. A speciality is /h/ in the syllable coda, irrespective of vowel length, e.g. "pika" "fast", "pihka" "resin", "piika" "maid", and as mentioned above, "vaahto". Loans may include similar initial clusters as English, e.g. "strutsi".
