Allen is the younger son ofLes Allen and brother ofClive Allen and was a small and skillful type of striker, who scored goals at all levels of the English domestic league.Allen made his debut as a teenager for
QPR and scored a number of important goals including ahat-trick atGoodison Park asQPR ran out 3-0 winners.Allen was transferred to
Charlton Athletic and thenGrimsby Town . When he first joined Grimsby Town he was used mainly as a substitute, but after the sale ofJack Lester andLee Ashcroft he formed fruitful partnerships with David Nielsen, Steve Livingstone andMichael Boulding .
