Electoral district of Taylor
- Electoral district of Taylor
Taylor is an electoral district of the House of Assembly in the Australian state of South Australia. This district is named after Doris Irene Taylor MBE, a leading force in the founding of Meals on Wheels, and Australian Labor Party activist. Taylor is a 549.8 km² semi-urban electorate in Adelaide's far northern suburbs and fringe farmland. A large portion of the district lives in its southern edges, corresponding to the northern fringes of Adelaide. It includes the suburbs and communitites of Andrews Farm, Buckland Park, Burton, Direk, Edinburgh, Fischer, Lewiston, Macdonald Park, Middle Beach, Penfield, Penfield Gardens, Port Gawler, Two Wells, Virginia, Waterloo Corner as well as parts of Bolivar, Elizabeth South, Globe Derby Park, Korunye, Lower Light, Parafield Gardens, Paralowie, Redbanks, Reeves Plains, Salisbury North and St Kilda.
Taylor was created for the 1993 State election, as a safe Australian Labor Party seat, and was won by the defeated Labor Premier Lynn Arnold. He resigned in 1994, and the seat was retained in a by-election by Trish White. She increased her margin at the 2006 state election from 17.7% to an extremely safe 27.4%. The Labor party tends to poll extremely strongly in the southern, urban areas of the electorate, but less strongly in the northern, rural areas of the electorate.
