The school educates approximately 226 students.[4] The principal is Kelly McDiffett. The school mascot is the Brave and the school colors are blue and yellow. Throughout its history, the athletic teams have won several state championships.

History
Extracurricular activities
Due to the school's small size, Council Grove offers a relatively small amount of clubs and programs. The school is a member of the Kansas State High School Activities Association and is classified as a 3A school. The athletic teams at Council Grove are known as the "Braves". Throughout the school's history, the Braves have won several state championships and have produced a few Division I, Division II, and Division III athletes.
Athletics
Council Grove High School has produced a few college basketball athletes over the years. Most notably Gary Carrier a 1981 graduate and Kansas Sports Hall of Fame inductee attended Washburn University and holds the scoring record at both Council Grove High and Washburn University. Carrier also played professionally for the defunct Topeka Sizzlers. Carrier now is a professional fisherman on the Bassmaster circuit and was last known to reside in Oklahoma. Chris Baker a 1993 graduate who is 2nd all time in scoring and 3rd all time in 3 Point baskets. Baker was 1st in 3 Point baskets until Jesse Oleen broke the record in 2002. Baker was also a First Team All State of Kansas Class 4A selection by the Wichita Eagle and Street and Smiths Magazine Top 100 Midwest in 1993. Baker, who was highly recruited , signed a NJCAA/NCAA National Letter of Intent to play at Highland Junior College(KS) but later transferred in 1995 to Barton County Junior College (NJCAA Div I) in Great Band KS where he was a starter and became highly polarized as a deadly 3 point shooter. Baker then in the 1997-98 season transferred to Pittsburg State University which was a mid-major NCAA Div I-AA affiliate. Baker also attended DePaul University in Chicago. He now resides in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
