CBS television affiliate inColumbus, Georgia . WRBL is the second oldtest television station in Columbus, having gone on the air a mere few weeks afterWTVM which debuted on October 6, 1953 as WDAK-TV on channel 28.After having been established as a radio station, WRBL was originally sold to the Junior Chamber of Commerce for $250. In 1931, after changing owners several more times, it was sold to Jim Woodruff, who was killed in a car wreck in the 1970's. After his death, banks controlled the station until it was bought byMalcolm Glazier 's Avant Corporation out ofRochester, New York . He sold it to TCS Partners who in turn sold it to Spartan Radiocasting Company, until they sold WRBL toMedia General , its current owners, in 2000. Its transmitter, located inCusseta, Georgia , once held the record as the tallest man-made structure on the face of the Earth.History
WRBL began as a radio station in the 1920's and broadcast their first signal from a dressing room in the Three Arts Theater, which used to sit across from the Medical Center in
