Manitoba ,Canada ) is a former NHLgoaltender who last played for the Toronto Maple Leafs and currently plays in Europe. Throughout his 12-yearNational Hockey League career, Kidd played for theCalgary Flames ,Carolina Hurricanes ,Florida Panthers andToronto Maple Leafs .A first-round draft pick, Kidd was selected 11th overall in the
1990 NHL Entry Draft , the first goalie picked in that year's draft. GoaliesMartin Brodeur (20th overall) andFélix Potvin (31st overall) were selected later in the same draft. Kidd was a very good reactionary, reflexive, athletic goaltender. Fundamentally not the most sound player, he tended to be a streaky, emotional player and often hot-headed.Playing career
Kidd played his first NHL game in the
1991–92 NHL season season with the Calgary Flames, a loss to thePittsburgh Penguins on March 3, 1992. His second game, the only other game he would play that season, was a 4–3 victory over theSan Jose Sharks on April 15, 1992.Kidd stepped in full time with the Flames in the
1993–94 NHL season , playing 31 games as backup to netminder Mike Vernon. He remained with the team through the1996–97 NHL season . After a less-than-stellar tenure and questions about his character, Kidd was traded prior to the start of the1997–98 NHL season to theCarolina Hurricanes for centerAndrew Cassels and goaltenderJean-Sébastien Giguère . Two mediocre years in Carolina followed; Kidd played withSean Burke . The following year, goalieArturs Irbe joined the team. The spectacular play of Arturs Irbe contributed to the Hurricanes leaving Kidd unprotected for the upcoming Expansion Draft. After being selected by the
Atlanta Thrashers in the1999 NHL Expansion Draft , Kidd was immediately traded to theFlorida Panthers . Again, Kidd's performance was sub-par. After a few seasons in Florida, his starting role was overtaken by young netminderRoberto Luongo . Kidd was waived by the Panthers before the start of the2002–03 NHL season .Kidd signed with the
Toronto Maple Leafs as a free agent in 2002. He followed up a 6–10–2 season in the2002–03 NHL season with a 6–5–2 record (3.26 GAA, .876 save percentage) in 15 games in the2003–04 NHL season ; his final game was a 7–2 loss to thePhiladelphia Flyers in which he replacedEd Belfour .During the NHL lockout, he played with team HC Örebro 90 in Sweden.
In May 2005, Kidd signed a deal with the
Hannover Scorpions in Germany.Kidd currently owns Mountain Bean Coffee Co, a high end coffee chain in Canada.
