HSC SpeedOne

HSC SpeedOne

SpeedOne is a 86m fast catamaran high-speed craft (HSC) ferry operated by SpeedFerries on their Dover - Boulogne line.__TOC__

History

HSC "SpeedOne" was built in 1997 at the Incat Yards in Tasmania, Australia as "Incat 045" but was not ordered by any ferry company. Her first use was on charter to TT-Line (Australia) for service between Melbourne and Devonport supporting the Spirit of Tasmania(1). After her charter ended she was laid up until May 1999 when the Australian Government leased her from Incat and commissioned Incat 045 into the Royal Australian Navy. She served for two years under the name HMAS "Jervis Bay" during Operation Spire, the Australian lead INTERFET Peace Keeping mission in East Timor. She was used to transport troops and equipment. During the ship's two year charter, "Jervis Bay" made 107 trips between Darwin and East Timor, shipping 20,000 passengers, 430 vehicles and 5,600 tonnes of freight, becoming known as the "Dili Express". She was decommissioned on 11 May 2001 and returned to Incat under her original name and was once again laid up. In 2002 Incat 045 was chartered to Italian ferry company TRIS and sailed between Genua and Palau under the marketing name of "Winner" until the collapse of the company later in 2002. She was sent to be laid up again in Portland, United Kingdom until she was chartered by SpeedFerries in 2004 when she was renamed "SpeedOne".

SpeedOne is currently registered in Dover, England.
