Longkesh is a small
village inCounty Antrim ,Northern Ireland , nearLisburn . In the 2001 Census it had a population of 201 people. It is situated in theLisburn City Council area.Places of interest
Longkesh is best known as the site of Long Kesh prison. It was converted from a
Royal Air Force base in1971 into a 'temporary' camp for republican internees. Later, it was expanded to house sentenced republican and loyalist prisoners; and in1976 was divided in two when the British government opened the H-Blocks.References
