- Cavern Pub
Opened in August 1994, the Cavern Pub is opposite the
Cavern Club and is also owned and operated by Cavern City Tours. The Pub has been designed to highlight the fact that between 1957 and 1973 most of the all-time greats of Rock, Pop,Soul ,R&B andJazz descended the stairs of theCavern Club to play on the most famous stage in the world. Most people would know of the Club’s proud association withThe Beatles andMersey Beat , but few would realise that artistes such asChuck Berry ,Eric Clapton ,The Rolling Stones ,Status Quo ,Judas Priest ,Joe Cocker ,The Who ,The Kinks ,Rod Stewart , Queen,Stevie Wonder ,The Temptations ,Sonny Boy Williamson ,Howlin’ Wolf ,Elton John ,Edwin Starr ,Gene Vincent ,Jimmy Page andJimi Hendrix all played at The Cavern between 1957 and 1973.If you look around the walls of the Pub you will see brass plaques with dates on them. These are the dates that each particular artiste performed at the Cavern Club. It is hoped that eventually the framed posters will be replaced by original memorabilia associated with each band or performer. The tribute to The Beatles encompasses a display of instruments associated with the band —
Rickenbacker (John),Höfner Bass (Paul), Ludwig (Ringo) andGretsch (George), together with a Vox amplifier. On 16 January 1997 to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the CavernGerry Marsden , ofGerry and the Pacemakers , unveiled the Cavern Wall of Fame which displays the names of 1801 bands and artistes who performed at The Cavern between 1957 and 1973.
