List of political parties in South Korea

Political parties in South Korea lists political parties in South Korea. South Korea has a multi-party system, in which parties have a chance of gaining power alone.

Parties

As of August 2008, there are six political parties present in the National Assembly:

*Ruling Grand National Party (한나라당 "Hannaradang"), represented by Park Hee-tae
*Democratic Party (민주당 "Minjudang"), led by Chung Sye Kyun, which was "de facto" ruling party until 2007
*Liberty Forward Party (자유선진당 "Jayu Seonjindang"), led by Lee Hoi-chang who was 1997/2002 presidential nominee for Grand National Party
*Pro-Park Alliance (친박연대 "Chinbak Yeondae") supporting Grand National Party's Park Geun-hye, led by Suh Chung-won
*Democratic Labor Party (민주노동당 "Minju Nodongdang"), represented by Gang Gi-gap
*Renewal of Korea Party (창조한국당 "Changjo Hangukdang"), led by Moon Kook-hyun

Other registered parties include:

*New Progressive Party (진보신당 "Jinbo Sindang"), led by Sim Sang-jeong and Roh Hoe-chan, split from Democratic Labor Party
*Christian Agape (기독사랑실천당 "Gidok Sarang Silcheondang")
*Socialist Party (사회당 "Sahoedang") to be re-formed from Korea Socialist Party
