Woodvale railway station

Woodvale railway station

Woodvale railway station was located in Woodvale, Merseyside.

The Southport & Cheshire Lines Extension Railway (SCLER) opened Woodvale on 1st September 1884. However, it was named 'Woodville & Ainsdale' from opening until 1st May 1898 and was renamed Woodvale thereafter. The station was built on an embankment crossing Liverpool Road and was well known for its floral displays situated on both platforms.

The station first closed in 1917, along with all other stations on the extension line, due to WW1 economy measures. The station then reopened in 1919, up until 7th January 1952, when the SCLER was closed for good.

Later the track bed was utilised to support what is now the Coastal Road, which runs from Woodvale to Southport.
