Koorong is a family owned company that began over 30 years agoFact|date=November 2007 at the Bootes family residence in Koorong Street, Marsfield, near Macquarie University in Sydney. Koorong opened their first Sydney store in Ryedale Road, West Ryde in 1978Fact|date=November 2007, moving to larger premises in West Parade, West Ryde in 1995 Fact|date=January 2008.

Koorong now operates 17 stores across AustraliaFact|date=September 2008,including Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth, Hobart and Launceston.
