- Hilton Cheong-Leen
Hilton Cheong-Leen (Chinese: 張有興;
pinyin : Zhāng Yǒuxīng, born6 August 1922 in Georgetown, British Guyana) is the chairman and the founder of theHong Kong Civic Association , which he founded in 1954. He was first elected as a member of the Civic Association to theUrban Council ofHong Kong on1 April 1957 and also the Vice-Chairman of the Council. He was later appointed to the Legislative Council in 1973 and indirectly elected in 1985. He was the first elected member ever to serve in the Legislative Council. He served in the Urban Counicl until 1991. Cheong-leen was instrumental in pushing for the nine years of compulsory schooling.He married in 1945 and became the father of two boys and two girls.
