Wallace H. J. Chang, M.D. (1937- ) was born May 16, 1937 in
Shanghai , China. He is the son of Frank and Molly King Chang with siblings Lydia Armstrong and Jack H.T. Chang, M.D. The family moved to Hong Kong during the revolution in 1947 and emigrated to the United States (New Jersey via San Francisco, CA) in 1951. Wallace attendedDuke University (1956-1959) and Medical School (1959-1964) and completed his medical training atHarvard /Mass General (1964-1968) and the University of Pittsburgh (1968-1970). He served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1964-1970. He is Board Certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners (1964), American Board of Surgery (1972) and the American Board of Plastic Surgery (1972).He served as Chief of Plastic Surgery at the
University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester, MA from 1971-1982. He has 4 children, Steven Chang, M.D., Kristen Chang, Paul Chang, Ph.D., and Jon Chang.He moved to
Seattle , WA in 1982 where he became a partner at Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons based in Renton, WA. Dr. Chang has a special interest in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery of the breast and hand surgery.Along with his associates, Dr. Chang remains involved with the residency-training program and is Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at the
University of Washington School of Medicine.Dr. Chang is a board examiner for the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Chang devotes several weeks every year volunteering on plastic surgical missions to foreign countries, including Mexico, Chile, China, Bolivia, Peru and the Philippines, performing reconstructive surgery on children with cleft lip and palates. He has made over 30 trips since 1990, working with
