It is the home of the Center for Communications (CFC), one of the Henrico County's eight specialty centers open to all students county-wide.Fact|date=February 2007 The CFC is a program in which students learn to master oral, written, and communications skills.

Renovations and Construction

To help with overcrowding issues in Henrico County, and with another delay by the school board to build another high school, the school board recently approved $47,011,180 for a new middle school, renovation of Freeman High School, and a 6 classroom addition to Varina High School. Also, the school is building 2 new fieldhouses and extending the existing weight room that is used by Sports teams as well as Physical Education classes. The expected completion time period is in October-December 2008.

=Key Club=The Key Club is a great opportunity for young women and men in high school. Their school's presiding Key Club president, Matt Nolte, works diligantly alongside with Stephen Hudson to keep the Club running smoothly.

This club sponsors many events such as UNICEF, March of Dimes, Read and Lead, the Children's Miricle Network, Blood Drives, and many more!
