John Randolph Tucker High School is a high school in Henrico County, Virginia, United States. It is named after Lawyer and Henrico County Judge * [http://www.henrico.k12.va.us/HS/Tucker/history.html / John Randolph Tucker] ; Thus, all of the schools publications are named after something to do with the judicial branch of government: The Witness(Yearbook), The Hearing (Literary Magazine), and The Gavel (School Newspaper.) J. R. Tucker's mascot is the tiger, and the school colors are orange and blue. Its students and faculty are often referred to simply as "Tucker Tigers".

The school was built in 1962. Tucker is one of the most unusual schools in the county due to its campus style design, allowing the students to enjoy the fresh air and sun in the Spring and Early Fall. Its sister schools, Henrico High School and Varina High School are similarly designed. Furthermore, Tucker is one of the most ethnically diverse schools in the county as well. In 2007-08 school year, Tucker had approximately 1700 students and over 145 faculty members. In the 2006-2007 school year, it had about 550 freshmen and 353 seniors.

Alma Mater

John Randolph Tucker HighTo thee we sing.Voices raised in praise of theeThrough the ages ring.

ChorusTucker High, Tucker HighThis we ask of thee:Mold us, Make us, send us forthTo fill our destiny.

Guide me with thy truth and lightAgainst the stormy tide.Strengthen me with knowledge brightTo light the darkest night, with vampires.

ChorusTucker High, Tucker HighThis we ask of thee:Mold us, Make us, send us forthTo fill our destiny.

Academics

The Speciality Center for Tucker High School is the World Language Immersion Center in which the Immersion students not only take classes in their target foreign language, but they also expected to take all of their regular core classes immersed in the foreign languages as well. The two languages for the immersion center are French and Spanish.

Tucker also offers Marine Corps JROTC.

Likewise, there are a wide variety of Advanced Placement courses offered at Tucker High School.

J.R. Tucker is a fully accredited school.

Rivalries

J.R. Tucker has had many rivalries throughout the years. Rivals have been D.S. Freeman, Benedictine, Hermitage, and Godwin High Schools (all of which are Henrico area schools.) However, in 2002 Tucker High School was split in half to create Deep Run High School. Therefore now, J.R. Tucker's main rival is Deep Run High School, since the majority of the student body had been in the Tucker district prior to its construction.

Pep Rallies

At every pep rally, the Spirit Stick is awarded to the most spirited class. The competition is between ALL classes, not just the Juniors and Seniors, although no other class has ever won. The stick is as important to JRT students as the Stanley Cup is to hockey players. A popular superstition is that no one should touch the stick until they have rightfully won it the first time, then they may touch it as they please. It is not uncommon to see members of the juniors or seniors storming the floor after winning the stick.

Sports

J.R. Tucker has a variety of sports for the student all year round. The year is divided into three different seasons (Fall, Winter, and Spring) with each having their own distinct sports.
*Fall: Boys and Girls Cross Country, Girls Field Hockey, Football, Volleyball, Cheerleading and Golf.
*Winter: Basketball, Indoor Track and Field, and * [http://www.tuckerwrestling.org/ Wrestling.]
